Summary of Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki's Arrest

Chidozie Nwangwu, known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, a popular native doctor in Anambra State, Nigeria, was arrested by the state security outfit, Agunechemba. This followed Governor Charles Soludo's December 2024 declaration of a crackdown on native doctors allegedly involved in criminal activities. While the Deputy Governor interrogated him, Akwa Okuko denied involvement in preparing charms ("Oke Ite"). IPOB, however, denounced the arrest as illegal, claiming it violated his fundamental rights and potentially suppressed religious freedoms. The Anambra State government clarified that the crackdown targets only native doctors aiding criminals, not traditional medicine practitioners in general.
